When you think of the most popular websites what do you think of?
Amazon? Nike? YouTube?
Other than having a good brand name and established reputation, what do they have in common?
The most successful websites have High-Quality webpages that have more components to them than meets the eye. There are many ways to measure and to evaluate what makes a High-Quality webpage, but we will go over a few to get you started.
There are the obvious factors such as fresh, original, and quality content but other factors such as bounce rate, short load time, and meta description & snippets can also set your website aside from the best.
Meta Description & snippets
When you start your very own website it is always important to have an idea of what you want to accomplish. It is always helpful to come up with a description of what your website is and how it can help the everyday consumer. A meta description is a short description of what your website has to offer that is located under the link of what people are searching. The description in not physically visible to viewers of your website but it is visible to people who search your site instead. This could include promotions currently held or simply just be a unique informative description to give the consumer some insight of why they should join your webpage rather than go to a competitor. This helps increase traffic by creating a high click-through rate for your site.
Bounce Rate
Bounce rate is the percentage of your websites visitors that simply click your link and leave to never return.
OUCH.
You obviously want to make sure that you offer something to your consumer that leaves them wanting more. Quality is what the consumers want to see and in order to retain customers and create a sense of brand loyalty. Having unique quality to set your site apart from others is key to minimizing bounce rates and keeping your customers wanting more.
Short Load Time
What's the one thing that most customers don't have?
Patience.
When a customer knows what they want then they want it as fast as possible. If your website takes a long time to load, then you may lose potential customers that don't want to wait. Search engines may also rank your site lower on their page list because of longer load times. There are thousands of ways to fix this but the most common include dedicated hosting, compressing images, and removing plugins.
There are many reasons that people continue using the most popular websites to explore the web or even buy products but there are also reasons they may want to switch to a new provider. People tend to not like change which makes it even harder to compete with big time websites like amazon. In order to convince consumers that your website is superior then you must implement different ideas like the ones listed in order to increase the quality of your site.
Increasing the quality = Increasing the consumers
